A few neat things about plants.....
Plants are important to life. We may group plants by their uses. Field crops are grown on large farms. Some are grown for their fibers, like cotton. Some are grown for food, like rice, hay, wheat, sugarcane, corn and soybeans. Managing soils for best plant growth is important. The study of soils and growing these plants on farms is called agronomy.
Trees are grown for wood and paper products. Forests are home for birds and animals. Forests also keep soil from washing away. The study of forests and wood is called forestry.
Some plants, like vegetables, are grown in gardens for us to pick and eat. Fruits and nuts are grown on bushes and trees in an orchard. Flowers, lawns and bushes growing around the house are called ornamentals. The study of growing gardens, orchards and ornamentals is called horticulture.
