Wood Duck Boxes
In an effort to enhance the wood duck’s natural nesting success, the America’s Wetland Conservation Corps (AWCC), the Vermilion Chapter of Delta Waterfowl, the LSU AgCenter and the Abbeville High School Industrial Arts Department partnered with local volunteers to construct and place wood duck boxes along the Vermilion River and other suitable wood duck habitats. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita destroyed acres of trees, and natural tree cavities were blown down, destroying many nest boxes. The new boxes that were installed will help the birds reproduce and thrive in Vermilion Parish.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this project to help restore wood duck habitats to southern Louisiana!
