2005 Spring Garden Show April 2-3 In New Orleans

News Release Distributed 03/01/05

The 2005 Spring Garden Show in New Orleans is set for April 2-3 in the Botanical Gardens on Victory Avenue in City Park.

The garden show promises to be fun and exciting for the entire family, according to LSU AgCenter horticulturist Karen Blackburn, who says it will include exhibits throughout the botanical gardens, sales of plant and garden products, a variety of educational speakers, a Louisiana Master Gardeners demonstration tent and an area just for kids.

This 26th annual show will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day to provide the public with information on where to obtain garden products, where to locate gardening services and what gardening organizations are located in the Metro New Orleans area.

"The overall goal of this show is to bring together people with professional and noncommercial interests in horticulture. We hope to enrich both the local gardening industry and to provide an educational opportunity for the home gardeners in the greater New Orleans area," Blackburn said.

She said the 2005 Spring Garden Show also will provide a plant health clinic - a place where people can bring plants with disease and insect problems to obtain a diagnosis of the problem and recommendations on control from LSU AgCenter faculty and volunteers. Soil may be brought in for analysis by the LSU AgCenter's Soil Testing Lab.

A variety of experts from the LSU AgCenter, as well as others, will be on hand to provide educational programs of special interest to the general public. In addition, plants and garden products will be available for purchase from vendors.

Admission to the event is $6 for adults and $2 for children ages 5-12. Children under 5 and official Friends of City Park may enter free of charge.

The Spring Garden Show is sponsored by the LSU AgCenter in cooperation with the Metro Horticulture Foundation and the New Orleans Botanical Garden.
