    This award recognizes 4-H club members who have shown outstanding leadership ability in their club & parish. The award is based on a scorecard which measures project growth & leadership. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age by December 1, 2020. Forms may be obtained below. Applications must be submitted by December 7, 2020 to the Extension Office.

    Chef Contest

    4-H’ers that enjoy cooking and/or baking this is the contest for you. Participants will video or create a “picture story” of themselves cooking a dish at home. A “Picture Story” is multiple pictures that tell the “story” of how you made your dish. Videos and “Picture Stories” should include ingredients, cooking process, and finished products. Entries are due via email by Monday, December 7, 2020 by 4:30 p.m.

    How to Enter: Email a video or “picture story” of you (the 4-H member) cooking a dish along with the recipe to lbenoit@agcenter.lsu.edu. Include the following in the subject line: “4-H Chef Contest”. Include the following within the email: 4-H member’s name, school/club, grade and judging category (Egg, Beef, Pecan, Rice, Sweet Potato). Entries are due via email by December 7th at 4:30 p.m.

    Food Exhibit Rules: Participants must compete as individuals (one 4-H’er per food dish). You may enter one dish in each category.

    Food Exhibit Categories – 1 dish per category

    • Egg Dessert – Make a dish containing at least 4 eggs. This can be 4 whites, 4 yolks or 4 whole eggs. No raw eggs will be allowed in the final product.
    • Any Beef Dish – Make a dish containing at least 1 pound of beef meat.
    • Pecan Candy/Dessert – Make a dish containing at least 1 cup of pecans.
    • Any Rice Dish – Make a dish containing at least 1 cup of cooked rice.
    • Any Sweet Potato Dish - Make a dish containing at least 1 cup of sweet potatoes.

    Christmas Ornament Workshop

    This workshop will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 from 4:30-6:30 P.M. at the Extension Office. 4-H’ers will demonstrate their creativity by making and decorating Christmas ornaments for themselves or a family member. To participate, 4-H’ers must pre-register by completing the registration located below. Registration deadline is Monday, November 23, 2020. The cost is $15.00. Check or money order need to be made payable to St. Landry Parish 4-H . The workshop is limited to the first 25 4-H’ers that register.

    Electric Lamp Workshop

    On Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at the Extension Office (Next to National Guard Armory/Airport Road), 4-H members will have the opportunity to participate in a “hands on” workshop where they will make a 4-H “soda can” lamp. There will be two workshop time slots to choose from (select 1 only). Each workshop is limited to the first 20 4-H’ers that pre-register.

    • 9:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M.
    • 11:00 A.M. - NOON

    To participate, 4-H’ers must pre-register by completing the online registration form located below. Deadline to register is Monday, November 2, 2020. The cost is $15.00. Check or money order need to be made payable to St. Landry Parish 4-H.

    Golden Clover Award

    This is awarded to junior 4-H members who’ve been in 4-H for two years (including this year) and are between the ages of 9 & 14. A point sheet must be submitted showing 4-H work through the years. Forms may be obtained below. Applications must be submitted by December 7, 2020.

    Honor Cord

    This award recognizes 4-H club members that are graduating seniors, and it is based on the following criteria:

    • Must be a graduating senior.
    • Must have been in 4-H for 3 of your high school years.
    • Must have participated in at least 1 state sponsored 4-H program within the last 3 years.

    Junior Leader Meeting

    The November meeting will be Tuesday, November 17, 2020 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at the Extension Office. We will have a business meeting and work on our community service project.

    Records Contest

    The Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays give you spare time to get together with some of your friends to do some of the activities in your 4-H project books. Be sure to have someone take pictures of you as your work on activities and projects. Keep the pictures with your project book. Keep a notebook of all the 4-H events you participated in. Books are to be turned in for the parish 4-H Records Contest in March.

    • 4-H Portfolio (7th-12th Grade)

    If you would like to receive your 4-H Project Book, one book included with your dues, please contact the St. Landry 4-H Office. 4-H Agents can pull the book and have it ready for you to pick up at the 4-H Office.
