Attention Senior 4-H Members! A variety of scholarships are available to apply for through 4-H. On the parish level, are the Scott Truck and Tractor and Livestock Scholarships. On the state level, the Louisiana 4-H Foundation offers several. Please see one of the 4-H Agents to receive the applications to apply. Deadlines to submit these will soon be approaching.
Do you have the leadership skills to be part of a successful business? Organize your own co-op business and find out. Co-op Conference will be held March 25-26th at Camp Hardtner in Pollock, Louisiana. It is open to 9th-12th grade 4-H’ers to participate. Registration fee of $50.00 and forms are due to the 4-H Office by Monday, February 15, 2021 if you are interested in attending.
This award recognizes 4-H club members who have shown outstanding leadership ability and project work in their club and parish. The award is based on a scorecard which measures project growth and leadership. Applicants must be at least 15 years of age by December 1, 2020. Forms may be obtained from a 4-H Agent. Applications must be submitted by extended deadline of February 1, 2021.
We will be selling raffle tickets for a four-wheeler donated by St. Landry Parish Farm Bureau. The tickets sell for $1.00 a chance and there are 10 tickets in a book. Each Junior Leader will be asked to sell a minimum of two books of tickets. The drawing will be held at the St. Landry Farm Bureau Federation Board Meeting, April 13th. You will be responsible for turning in the ticket stubs, money and any unsold tickets.
This is awarded to junior 4-H members who’ve been in 4-H for two years (including this year) and are between the ages of 9 & 14. A point sheet must be submitted showing 4-H work through the years. Forms may be obtained from a 4-H Agent. Applications must be submitted by extended deadline of February 1, 2021.
The first half of the club year was busy. We selected our Service-Learning Project, “Helping Hands Healing Hearts”; collected items and made shoeboxes for Seniors at area nursing homes, conducted both a 4-H Electric Workshop and Christmas Ornament Decorating Workshop, and held two great fundraisers.
The January Junior Leader Club Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 20, 2021. At this meeting, raffle ticket fundraiser, state 4-H events and a fun activity. Also, we will work on creating “thank you” Valentine Cards for Opelousas General Hospital Staff so please bring markers with you.
4-H Junior Leadership Conference provides the opportunity for diverse groups of youth, who are currently engaged in significant leadership activities, to come together while further learning and developing their leadership and teamwork skills.
JLC will be a one-day event this year and is scheduled to be held March 12th in Alexandria and March 13th in Baton Rouge. Each parish has four spots available. It is open to Junior Leaders in 8th-12th grade. If you would be interested in participating in JLC please let me know ASAP.
