This has been a very trying time for everyone. This year’s 4-H theme is 4-H Builds. We will be working on Re-building our enrollment, building true leaders, building future citizens, and building impacts within our community! We hope to offer as many opportunities to all 4-H members as we normally do! Those opportunities may look slightly different at times, but they will be safe, educational, and fun! Whether virtual or in-person, we will work on building up our youth by using their Heads, Hands, and Hearts to “Make the Best, Better!”
4-H is getting kicked off this month! School club leaders are going to be disseminating 4-H information to interested members at school. We have moved to a NEW Online Enrollment System! If your school has not already given out 4-H information, contact the 4-H office to find out who is the club leader at your school and if your school has a 4-H program! Read on to find out how to sign up. If your school doesn’t have a school club, you can join 4-H as a Member at Large. We hope to offer a virtual parish monthly meeting for members who can’t attend a school club meeting to be able to log in and participate in a monthly meeting with Mrs. Camille and Mrs. Stephanie. Fill out your online enrollment TODAY to begin your 4-H adventure! More information on Ascension 4-H can be found at lsuagcenter.com/ascension4h
Visit www.lsuagcenter.com/ascension4h to check out our website to stay up-to-date! We will continue to post updates, contest rules and information, event registrations, and more on the website as the year progresses!
Scan the code or visit v2.4honline.com to join 4-H TODAY! Through this online system, you can create
a family and/or member profile, track awards, register for events, and much more! Your member profile
will help track your 4-H experiences from year to year!
A few notes when registering…
We are very fortunate to be housed at Lamar Dixon where we normally host all of our parish events and activities. Due to Hurricane Ida, Lamar Dixon has been jam-packed with relief efforts. In Addition, there is ongoing construction on the gym next door. Please be patient if you need to come by our office. You may have to drive around to find your way in. All of our events for September and early October are being moved to alternate locations as to not have a lapse in programming efforts. Please be sure to double-check your meeting locations when attending an event and don’t forget to double-check check our social media for any last-minute location changes.
We realize some schools may not be able to offer monthly 4-H meetings due to COVID guidelines and restrictions. We will begin offering a monthly virtual Clover Update. September’s update will take place at 6 p.m. on the 30th. This will be an opportunity for 4-H members to tune in to a monthly 4-H meeting with the 4-H agents, Mrs. Camille and Mrs. Stephanie, to get updates, talk about upcoming Ascension 4-H opportunities, and participate in the monthly 4-H Science Lab activity that will be presented at school club 4-H meetings. For September, there are no supplies needed to attend. You can access the virtual Clover Update through the info below or the link posted on lsuagcenter.com/ascension4h. Read further for next month’s educational activity & supplies to be prepared for October’s Clover Update.

This year the Agents will be presenting 4-H Science Lab lessons as the club meeting educational focus. In order for those virtual students who may not be able to attend their school club meetings and members at large to be able to participate in these monthly lessons, we will include the supplies and information about the activity in the newsletter for 4-H members to be able to participate at home. Each month, the Agents will conduct a monthly virtual update for you to attend. We will conduct the lesson during this virtual meeting. You will have the opportunity to watch the demonstration, then complete the activity at home!
Supplies Needed: tissue, balloons, scissors, tape

For each of your monthly contest entries, you will need to take pictures before (ingredients), during (action shots), and after (finished product) you have completed your dish. You will need to submit your recipe and a short summary about your experience of cooking the dish. All of these can be emailed to Mrs. Stephanie. Then you will need to drop off a portion of your completed dish on the contest date from 8 am to 5:30pm. From there, your entries will be judged by our volunteers. The first monthly contest will be the egg cookery. More detailed guidelines and explanations will be available soon on our website at lsuagcenter.com/ascension4-H!

All 10-13-year-olds interested in fashion, may want to attend the LA State 4-H Fashion Camp- “4-H Lights, Camera, Fashion” to be held January 21-23, 2022 at Camp Grant Walker. This camp is put on by the Louisiana State Fashion Leadership Board members. The Fashion Board chose this theme to reflect their excitement about fashion and the attitude that the campers will adopt as they travel through the experiences at camp. In addition to basic sewing fundamentals, a few of the educational activities for campers include: a sewing caddy, tote bag, a reading pillow, a community service project plus more. You will return home with completed projects and ideas to host your own fashion workshop! Each parish is allowed to send a maximum of 2 youth and one Ascension adult leader is required. Adult leaders will need to be screened and oriented before attending. Attendees will be selected on a first-come-first-served basis as space for camp is limited. For more information, please contact the office. The deadline to register will be December 1.
Volunteers are the heart of the Ascension Parish 4-H program. There are many roles and positions the provide important functions to help make 4-H programming successful. All volunteers must be registered and trained by the parish office.
