4-H Camp Instructor (General Arts) - Grant Parish - R00042076

Work Location: Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center, Pollock LA.

Position Description: This individual will serve as the lead instructor who teaches general arts subject matter in a track format to an audience of up to 25-50 youth at a time, 4th-6th grades, in a camp setting. This person will be responsible for meeting with and mentoring two other assigned camp staff before and after track time each day. The instructor will join other summer staff in providing safe supervision of youth while at camp and will support 4-H professionals, volunteers and members in conducting meaningful educational experiences to help campers develop life skills. Works under the direct supervision of the Camp Director of Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center to implement all policies and procedures of the LSU AgCenter and the Louisiana 4-H Youth Development program.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Teach general arts curriculum (visual, performing, etc.), utilizing a mix of outdoor and classroom settings.
  • Plan activities that give campers the opportunity to express themselves creatively.
  • Use group management skills to engage all children in daily activities.
  • Coordinate with the 4-H Program Coordinator in track planning and curriculum.
  • Maintain, manage, and request equipment and supplies for the track.
  • Clean assigned teaching areas daily and at the end of teaching week.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, arts, or field related skills.
  • At least one year of teaching experience and expertise.
  • Must complete the employee background screening process and be approved by the LSU AgCenter Human Resource Management unit.
  • Professional communication skills, both written and oral. Work efficiently with youth in group situations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Incorporate adult volunteers and counselors into the track as teaching assistants/helpers.
  • Ability to communicate and direct small and large groups of youth.
  • Flexibility in schedules and programming.
  • Competent in organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage resources.

Salary and Benefits: Salary: $2700.00 for the nine-week period.

Date Available: Camp begins on May 23, 2022 and ends July 23, 2022. Work hours are Tuesday and Wednesday each week from 7:30 am until 12:00 pm, plus prep and clean-up time. The camp is not in session the week of June 20-23, 2022. The required training period will be the week of May 16 – May 20, 2022.
