Work Location: LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens at Burden

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director and coordinating with the Assistant Director, the Communication Coordinator will book, manage and coordinate all events and assist the communications coordinator with the strategy for all communications and public relations messages for Botanic Gardens events and programs. A hands-on and participative leader, this position must excel at high level customer service and messaging as well as at detailed, day-to-day implementation of event and photography scheduling and communications. The position will work closely with other members of the Botanic Gardens staff, AgCenter Communications, AgCenter Office of Development and Friends of Botanic Gardens as they partner on a variety of initiatives. This position will be critical to actively welcome the community, build revenue and support, enhance programming, refine operations and build capacity.


Primary point of contact for all clients and visitors concerning use of the Botanic Gardens facilities. This includes scheduling tours, providing rental and venue information, answering questions, preparing the appropriate paperwork and maintaining the calendar and computer programs for reservations, maintaining a survey instrument for clientele, ticketing for events.

Primary point of contact for all photography scheduling, communicating with photographers, and providing passes.

  • Responsible for coordinating all events (public and private) within the different venues of the Botanic Gardens and working with the staff leaders within these areas to provide a seamlessly organized space and schedule for all events. This includes coordinating with the Friends volunteers, plant related organizations and University faculty and staff to schedule events.
    • Develop and maintain schedule with Botanic Gardens staff and staff on duty for rental with setup and cleanup of all rental facilities
    • Coordinate and reserve security for events
    • Coordinate with rental contact regarding setup and cleanup of all rental facilities
    • Coordinate with clients and other event professionals on timing, installations, policies and procedures of the Botanic Gardens,
  • Assist the Development Coordinator with maintaining a sponsorship contact list, contribution list and sponsor recognition. Assist the Communication Coordinator with marketing of events and programs.
  • Responsibilities include assisting with and/or managing some events on both weekdays, evenings and weekends
  • Must be accessible throughout the week and some weekends to answer questions about event rentals and use of the Botanic Gardens.
  • Responsible for learning, managing, and training others on use of the booking and communications programs within the office.
  • Communicate and coordinate event logistics with Botanic Gardens and Rural Life Museum staff to prevent and/or remedy potential conflicts with events, photography and visitors on site.
  • Coordinate, train, and mentor student workers to assist with communications, scheduling events, client care, and general office assignments. Coordinate schedule for student workers that are assigned to reception desk.

Qualifications Requirements:

  • 4-year degree in communications, management, business, hospitality or equivalent.
  • Excellent computer literacy
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Experience in sales and/or customer relations

Salary and Benefits:

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
