(This is a grant funded non-tenure track position. Continuation of employment will be dependent on funding availability, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)
Work Location: Sugar Research Station, LSU AgCenter, St. Gabriel, LA
Position Description: Primary responsibilities will be weed management in research plots and assisting in all activities related to the LSU AgCenter sugarcane variety development program. Tractor applied herbicide programs will target seasonal problem weeds. Sugarcane breeding activities will include photoperiod and crossing, early-stage seedling and clonal selection, infield and nursery trials, and outfield trials which are conducted industry-wide in cooperation with personnel from the USDA-ARS and the American Sugar Cane League. Specific responsibilities will be from the seedling through the infield stage of the program. Specific duties will include, but not be limited to, planting, harvesting, processing harvested samples in the sugarcane laboratory, data collection and entry, limited data analysis and reporting, and operation of farm machinery and laboratory equipment.
Qualification Requirements: The position requires a B.S. in agronomy, weed science, plant pathology, entomology, plant science, or a closely related field. Knowledge and skills in time management, organization, personnel supervision, data management, and computer skills are essential. Farming and/or field crop experience in sugarcane is desirable. The successful candidate must have acceptable written and oral communication skills
