****Due to the very limited amount of summer camp spots still available there will be priority registration by grade, then by lottery.****
As a result of ongoing repairs to Camp Grant Walker from hurricane damage and flooding, there are very limited spots for Ascension Parish youth to attend. 6th grade 4-H members have received priority registration ending on Tuesday, April 5th. We will continue to offer priority registration by grade level. See priority deadlines below. After each deadline, we will select campers and alternates based on a lottery system. All interested campers will be contacted with selection results and further information with 2 days of the submission DEADLINE. The summer camp deposit of $50.00 and summer camp participant REQUIRED parent informational meeting for THOSE SELECTED will be held on Thursday, April 28 at 6 pm. More details will be provided to selected participants.
6th grade priority registration: March 11 - April 5
5th grade priority registration: April 6 - April 13
4th grade priority registration: April 15 – April 26 (Open only if spots are not previously filled by 6th and 5th grades)
Camp will be held at our facility that has been used as the state 4-H summer camp for 100 years. In fact, it is the oldest 4-H camp in the South! More than 215,000 Louisiana youth along with over 9,000 volunteers have taken part in this experience. The camp is conducted at the Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center located in Pollock, Louisiana. Our scheduled week to camp is Monday, July 11 - Thursday, July 14, 2022. Campers will be able to be part of the fun and enjoy swimming, canoeing, archery, and line dancing. The cost for the overnight camp will be about $200.00 per camper. Scholarship opportunities will be available.
As with any event, camp counselors and adult chaperones will be utilized. All counselors and adult chaperones will be required to attend training. All adult chaperones will be background checked. If you are interested in serving as a camp counselor or adult chaperone, please contact your parish 4-H agent.
