The 2011 Northeast District Livestock Show is dedicated to C. L. Keene. A lifelong resident of Madison Parish, Keene has been involved in development of youth since 1966. He became involved with the Livestock Show when his oldest daughter developed an interest in showing pigs during her first year in 4-H.
Keene has served as District Vice President of the Louisiana Cattleman’s Association and Chair of the Livestock Show committee. As Chairman of the District Vice Presidents, he securred funding and support from the LCA to start the first Junior Cattleman’s Association in the nation. He served many years as the regional certifier for the Louisiana Bred program and has been very active in the show ring at the Parish, District and State Livestock Shows.
He was inducted into the LCA Spur Club in January 1990 and was again honored for his work with youth of the Louisiana Cattleman’s Association during the 2010 LCA Annual meeting at AG Expo at the Ike Hamilton Pavilion.
C. L. is married to Ann Keene and they have three children: MaryKathryn Book and husband, Nap; C. W. Keene and wife, Alyce; and Meg Thomas and husband, Paul. They have three granddaughters: Chelsea Keene, AnnaBeth and Katie Book, who are currently students at Loyola and UL-Lafayette.
