One of the last, but most important steps in producing a cotton crop is harvest preparation. 

Successful harvest preparation includes scheduling for defoliation and harvest operations, removal of foliage and facilitating boll opening. 

Successful defolition has many benefits, according to LSU AgCenter researchers.
