St. Bernard Parish 4-H Clubs held their annual 4-H Cookery Contest on January 21, 2012, at Davies Elementary School. 4-H Club members prepared a variety of dishes in four categories, Seafood, Egg, Poultry and Sugar. Dishes were scored on appearance, taste, recipe and food safety.

While the judging was taking place 4-H’ers participated in demonstrations by 4-H Junior Leader Club members. Participants learned how to make healthy snacks such as Ice Cream in a Bag, Turkey Cheese Tortilla Roll-ups and Fruit Kabobs. Winners will have the opportunity to compete against winners from 14 other parishes at the Area Cookery Contest to be held at Southland Mall, Houma, Louisiana in April 2012. Winners will also attend a field trip to the Los Islenos Museum where they will tour the museum, learn about table settings and prepare some Los Islenos dishes for their lunch.
