St. Bernard Parish 4-H Clubs held their annual 4-H Cookery Contest on January 19 at Davies Elementary School. 4-H Club Members prepared a variety of dishes in four categories, Seafood, Egg, Poultry and Sugar. Dishes were scored on appearance, taste, recipe and food safety. While the judging was taking place 4-H’ers participated in demonstrations by 4-H Jr. Leader Club Members. Participants learned how to make healthy snacks such as Ice Cream in a Bag, Turkey Cheese Tortilla Roll-ups, and Fruit & Yogurt Parfait . Winners will have the opportunity to compete against winners from 16 other parishes at the Southeast Area Cookery Contest to be held at Southeastern University, Hammond, Louisiana in May. Winners will also attend a field trip to the Los Islenos Museum where they will tour the museum, learn about table settings and prepare Los Islenos dishes for their lunch.
