St. Bernard Parish 4-H Cookery Contest Information

Cookery judges sample dishes in the sugar category.

Cookery contest participants learn how to make healthy snacks such as turkey and cheese rollups.

Contestents learned about making healthy snacks. 4-H members sampled different fruit by making fruit kabobs.

The St. Bernard Parish 4-H Cookery Contest will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of  Davies Elementary School, 4101 Mistrot, Meraux, La. The 2015 cookery event will feature competition in:

  • Poultry -- chicken or processed poultry
  • Seafood – crab, crawfish, fish, shrimp, oyster
  • Egg – dessert, appetizer or main dish
  • Sugar – pie, cookies, cakes, candy
First, second and third place will be awarded in each category. The highest scoring dish score in each sub-category will be eligible to participate in the Regional Cookery Contest held in Ponchatoula, Louisiana in May 2016. 

While the dishes are being judged, 4-H members will have the opportunity to participate in several hands-on mini sessions about preparing healthy snacks such as ice cream in a bag, turkey roll-ups and fruit kabobs.

The 4-H Cookery Contest is open to all St. Bernard Parish 4-H Club members.
