Harvest Moon Cookery Contest - Saturday, October 13, 2012

Registration 9-9:30 a.m.
Judging 9:30-11 a.m.
Workshop 9:30-11 a.m.
Awards 11:30 a.m., 4-H Office Hallway (3rd floor of the Franklin Courthouse)

The contest will be conducted in the 4-H office, located on the 3rd floor of the courthouse in Franklin, LA. The rules for the contest are the same as last year. Fun activities will take place while dishes are being judged. After you register and drop off your entry in the 4-H office, you will be escorted to the parking lot for the hands-on workshops.

Contest rules will be strictly enforced. If you have questions about the contest rules, be sure to call our office before you plan your dish. The number is 337-828-4100, extension 300.

Contest Rules

(Please review the full version of the cookery rules attached below.)

-The categories are: Poultry, Eggs, Beef, Seafood and Sugar. Grand Champion Winners in each division will be invited to compete at the area cookery contest.
-All dishes are to be prepared the night before, refrigerated overnight and brought to the contest cold, on ice and in an ice chest. No exceptions!
-
All dishes are to be prepared by the 4-H'er. The 4-H'er must bring and register his or her own dish to the contest. Parents and/or family members cannot register the dishes - no exceptions!
-Contestants are limited to one entry in each of the five categories.
-All entries must meet all division requirements.
-Contestants are to only bring half of the dish to the contest.
-All entries must be in disposable containers as all entries will be disposed of at the end of the contest.
-Recipes must accompany the dishes. (Bring your recipe in a plastic food storage bag.)
-Entries will be judged on taste, appearance, dietary guidelines, creativity and originality.
-Judges will look for healthy dishes.
-4-H'ers must set up their dish for judging by themselves.

Awards

Each division will have a Grand Champion, 2nd Place, Blue Ribbon Group, Red Ribbon Group and White Ribbon Group.

Note: Failure to follow all cookery rules can lead to disqualification from the contest.

Pumpkin Decorating Workshop

While your cookery dishes are being judged we will have a Pumpkin Decorating Workshop and other fun activities. We will not carve the pumpkins - you will paint them! There will be a $1:00 fee per 4-H'er for the workshop to cover the cost of the painting supplies. 4-H'ers are to bring a small pumpkin to decorate. This fun activity will take place outside in the parking lot as long as the weather cooperates. Should it rain, the workshop will be held in the Sheriff's Office meeting room. This workshop is strictly for cookery contest participants!

In addition to this workshop we will have a hands-on demonstration by Michael Mancuso, our parish Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) State Board Member.
