About 4-H

4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. Through non-formal, research-based, experiential education activities, 4-H participants gain knowledge and life skills enabling them to become positive, productive, capable and compassionate member of their communities. About West Feliciana 4-H

The 4-H program in West Feliciana parish is unique because we are a smaller parish which gives us the opportunity to get to know our 4-Hers on a more personal level! 4-H is offered as a club through the West Feliciana School System at Bains Elementary School (4th & 5th Grades), WFMS, & WFHS.If you are homeschooled and are a member of the West Feliciana Homeschool Co-op you can join 4-H through the West Feliciana Homeschool Co-op Club. You can still join West Feliciana 4-H as a member at large if you live in West Feliciana Parish but do not attend school in West Feliciana Parish, you go to school in West Feliciana but do not live in West Feliciana, or you attend school in West Feliciana but go to a different club during club day at school. Not only does West Feliciana 4-H offer opportunities for members to be a part of a school clubs, but it also offers more in depth learning in 5 different focus areas called project clubs. West Feliciana 4-H currently offers project clubs in the following areas:

  • West Feliciana Jr. Leaders (7th-12th Graders)
  • Feliciana Livestock Club
  • West Feliciana Horse Club
  • Shooting Sports – 2 disciplines – Archery & Shotgun
    • West Feliciana Archery Team & West Feliciana Shotgun Team
  • Sewing Clubs
    • Beginner Sewing Club, Intermediate Sewing Club, and Advanced Sewing Club

Types of Membership

There are 4 different types of membership offered to youth through the Ascension Parish 4-H program.

  • Cloverbud— An age appropriate, non-competitive experience for youth that targets children from kindergarten through third grade.
  • Club Membership— 4-H Club members must be 9 years of age before January 1 of the current club year and must not have passed their 19th birthday on January 1. 4-H clubs are groups of youth who meet monthly to learn, work on 4-H projects, perform community service, develop leadership skills and work together. Guided by the 4-H Agent and one or more adult volunteers. Our Clubs are Bains 4th, Bains 5th, West Feliciana Middle School, and West Feliciana High School.
  • West Feliciana Homeschool Co-op Club – Must be a member of the West Feliciana Homeschool Co-op to join this club. members must be 9 years of age before January 1 of the current club year and must not have passed their 19th birthday on January 1. 4-H clubs are groups of youth who meet monthly to learn, work on 4-H projects, perform community service, develop leadership skills and work together. Guided by the 4-H Agent.
  • Member at Large— Participate in planned learning outside of a club setting. Self-directed with guidance and support of parents and mentors.

Meet the West Feliciana 4-H Agent

Our 4-H Agent is Ms. Katlin Lucas. She is a graduate of the LSU College of Agriculture. Her degree is in Renewable and Natural Resources (RNR).

She is also lifelong 4-H member from Avoyelles Parish. She was an active member who participated in livestock, various competitions, camps, and clubs. Her rabbit project was one of her favorite projects and she still using the skills she learned from raising them today. Her passion for 4-H has never faded and she is loving serving as the West Feliciana 4-H Agent.
