Urban Assistant/Associate/Extension Agent (4-H Youth Development) - Orleans Parish - R00057886

Work Location: The Extension office is physically located in New Orleans, Louisiana with the position serving Orleans Parish.Located in southeast Louisiana, Orleans Parish has a population of approximately 391,495 residents of which 46,000 are youth. At least 93% of students attending public schools attend charter schools a part of the Recovery School District under the umbrella of the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) The parish also have several private and parochial schools.

Position Description: The Assistant/Associate Extension Agent will provide leadership for non-formal, innovative youth development education based on the identified needs of the parish. This professional will work closely with and through volunteers to plan and organize a 4-H youth program that will appeal to a wide range of audiences. The Extension Agent will increase involvement of non-traditional 4-H youth audiences and expand program diversity and delivery. Program delivery includes 4-H school clubs, project and community-based clubs, camps, after school programs, school enrichment, leadership programs, short-term and special interest groups and community service-learning.

Qualifications Requirements: A baccalaureate degree in agriculture, education, youth development, non-profit management, community engagement, human sciences, recreation and leisure studies, natural resources or closely related field.Must have an undergraduate degree with an overall grade point average of at least 2.5 (all GPA requirements based on a 4.0 system) and a 3.0 for graduate work attempted if any or Master’ degree or a current grade-point average of at least 3.0 on at least 12 hours of graduate credit. Must have worked with youth in a formal and/or informal setting for 2 to 3 years. The 4-H Assistant/Associate Extension Agent must be inclusive and work with diverse populations that would include race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, gender identity, socioeconomic status, physical and mental disabilities and religion. The applicant must be a self-starter and have strong organizational skills.The ability of multi-tasking, managing several youth groups, and projects by implementing, evaluating outcomes and meeting timelines are necessary. The ability to demonstrate the capability to collaborate and build relationships with people to create successful partnerships to enhance programming goals and empower youth to be successful in the program.

Conditions of Employment: A personal automobile and appropriate insurance coverage is required (travel allowance provided). Satisfactory completion of two specific graduate level extension courses (6 credit hours) is generally required in the first two years of employment.Additionally, a faculty member who does not have a related master’s degree must complete an additional 9 hours of related graduate level coursework in order to be promoted to associate agent and such promotion must occur in the first seven years of employment.An exception is that additional agent experience may be substituted for nine hours of coursework, not for the two required courses.
