Postdoctoral Researcher - East Baton Rouge Parish - R00060553

(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position through November 2022. Continuation will be dependent on funding, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)

WORK LOCATION: School of Renewable Natural Resources, LSU Agricultural Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

NATURE OF WORK: A multi-investigator team is seeking a Post-doctoral Research Associate to participate in a collaborative project focused on understanding the physiology and ecology of oyster populations within changing estuaries. Applicants should hold a graduate degree (PhD) in biology, oceanography or related field. The ideal candidate will be experienced in working in the field, driving and trailering boats, maintaining lab equipment and experiments, and collecting lab and field data and analyzing data using advanced statistics. The successful candidate will be expected to assist, design, and implement experiments assessing oyster population performance, examining oyster reef ecosystem services under different conditions, and exploring large data sets related to oyster performance and water quality across the Gulf of Mexico. The successful candidate will be expected to help maintain lab and field equipment and vehicles, and oyster populations for experiments. The position involves supporting and working with faculty, graduate students, and is highly collaborative with state, federal and non-governmental organization co-PIs. Travel to field sites, including overnight stays, and occasional weekend work will be required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must hold a PhD degree in biological sciences, natural resources management, marine science, or a related field. Applicant must possess experience in some, or preferably all, of the following (1) experience working in the field, driving boats and collecting field and laboratory data; (2) ability to work extended days, including some weekends, outside during hot and cold days and carry heavy loads; (3) experience working in a laboratory, maintaining water quality in tanks, and running assays, and (4) experience working with spreadsheets, statistical software, GIS, and the ability to work independently, create work plans, and meet deadlines.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
