(This is a one-year grant-funded, full time (40 hrs./week) non-tenure track position through 12/31/2022. Continuation will be dependent on funding, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)
WORK LOCATION: Department of Plant Pathology & Crop Physiology, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, Louisiana
RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct field and laboratory research on molecular biology of plant pathogens. Routine duties include collecting plant tissue sample from affected trees in urban landscape, perform DNA isolation, PCR and restriction digestion, gel electrophoresis, and DNA sequence analysis; and daily lab activities including, maintaining experimental materials, equipment, and plant tissue specimens.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A Bachelor's degree in Plant pathology, Entomology, or related field. Excellent skills in molecular biology techniques are required as is willingness to learn new techniques. Experience in working with fungi, microbial cultures, and/or microscopy is preferred. Experience with scouting of insect pests and diseases in the field is required. A valid Louisiana State driver’s license is required at the time of appointment. The successful candidate must be willing to use his/her own vehicle to travel to sampling sites, if needed. The successful candidate must be fluent in speaking English.
