Assistant Professor - Research - East Baton Rouge Parish - R00065494

Work Location: Aquatic Germplasm and Genetic Resources Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Nature of Work: Responsibilities include: (1) independent research and process development for cryopreserving germplasm of aquatic organisms, (2) close collaboration with technology-development engineers to produce practical smart devices for germplasm repositories, (3) close coordination and outreach for repository development with national stock centers that provide aquatic organisms for biomedical research, (4) development of manuscripts and conference presentations to disseminate information on work performed. Work after hours including weekends will be required periodically. Familiarity with research, husbandry, and cryobiology of aquatic organisms is required.

Qualification Requirements: Candidates must have a PhD in biological sciences, genetics, fisheries, aquaculture, or related field. Experience in biological engineering and additive manufacturing is required. Strong experience in genetic resources and biology, cryopreservation, experimental design, and statistical analysis is preferred. Previous supervision of undergraduate and graduate students and STEM education is highly desirable. Candidates must have strong written and oral communication skills.
