Work Location: Reproductive Biology Center, LSU AgCenter, Saint Gabriel, Louisiana

Position Description: Provide broad technical research and herd management support for the LSU AgCenter Reproductive Biology Center. Requires knowledge of research procedures and philosophy and practical application in a field research setting. The Reproductive Biology Center is an AAALAC accredited facility, and this employee will work cooperatively with the compliance officer. Therefore, attention to detail, good organizational skills, and an understanding and adherence to established standard operating procedures, animal welfare, and timely submission of reports is required. Specific responsibilities will include day-to-day management of horses, goats and cattle, which support the teaching, research, and extension functions for the School of Animal Sciences. Duties include animal health care and biosecurity, research data collection, maintaining production records, animal inventory maintenance, and related duties. Responsibilities also include pasture management, infrastructure maintenance, farm equipment maintenance and repair, general budget management, and supervision of a full-time employee and part-time student workers. This position reports to the Resident Director of Central Research Station administratively but works closely with faculty and the administrative head of the School of Animal Sciences with respect to teaching, research, and extension programs. This position will also be expected to interact with, assist, and support Animal Science Department graduate students, the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, and with any other departmental personnel conducting research at this location.

Qualification Requirements: Baccalaureate and/or Master’s degree in Animal Science or closely related field. Knowledge and experience in working in an agricultural research setting managing cattle, horses and goats and a working knowledge of farming practices, including pasture management, pesticide applications, and operation of farm machinery is highly desirable. Experience in large animal reproductive technologies such as AI and ultrasound examination is preferred. Desire practical experience in managing farm animals, organizational skills to maintain records, assist in data collection and computer skills are required.
