WORK LOCATION: Bob R. Jones-ldlewild Research Station, Clinton, Louisiana

JOB DESCRIPTION: Provide broad technical research and management support for the LSU AgCenter Bob R Jones­ldlewild Cervid Program. Requires knowledge of research procedures and philosophy, and practical application in a field research setting. Specific responsibilities will include day-to-day management of Whitetail and Red Deer herds, which supports teaching, research, and extension functions for departments within the College of Agriculture. Duties include animal health care and biosecurity, research data collection, production records, animal inventory maintenance, and related duties. Responsibilities also include pasture management, infrastructure maintenance, farm equipment maintenance and repair, general budget management, and supervision of two full-time employees. This position reports to the Resident Director of the Bob R Jones-ldlewild Research Station administratively but works closely with research and extension faculty from departments within the College of Agriculture with respect to teaching, research, and extension programing. This position will also be expected to interact with, assist, and support graduate students, the AgCenter Institutional Veterinarian, the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, and with any other departmental personnel conducting research or teaching activities at this location. Candidate will also be responsible for acting as station safety coordinator and ensuring that the unit's safety program is updated annually and meets all specifications set forth by the Division of Administration Office of Risk Management. This will include ensuring the unit passes the annual safety audit. The successful candidate will also assist in maintaining the unit's equipment inventory and completing any other assigned tasks.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: B.S./M.S. in Wildlife Management, Natural Resource Ecology and Management, Animal Science or closely related agricultural field. Knowledge and experience in working in an agricultural research setting related to animal production and a working knowledge of farming practices, including pesticide application and operation of farm machinery is highly desirable. Desire practical experience in managing exotic animals and organizational skills to maintain records and assist in data collection; computer skills are required. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in wildlife management, management of research programs and statistical analysis of data. Applicants must possess a high level of communication and organizational skills.
