Work Location: H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station, LSU AgCenter, Crowley, Louisiana

Position Description: The position will provide support to and assist with the coordination of rice agronomy research. The successful applicant will focus their efforts at the H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station, but some travel will be required to conduct off-station research plots. The position will assist in the preparation, establishment, maintenance, and harvest of rice field experiments at both on-station and off-station sites. The applicant should have some working knowledge of agronomic crop production. Principal responsibilities will include preparation of seeds and other pre-planting materials, planting and harvesting, application of fertilizers and chemicals; sample and data acquisition; laboratory and greenhouse work, operation of field equipment; and general management of off-station rice experiments under the direction of a project leader. Weekly overnight travel is required during the rice growing season (April – September). Some heavy lifting is required. The position will also include responsibility for supervision of certain personnel.

Qualification Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in plant sciences, agronomy, horticulture, plant pest management, other agricultural curriculums or related discipline from an accredited college or university. Computer skills required. Farming or research experience is highly desirable, but not necessary. Candidates with non-agricultural degrees may be considered depending on other experiences.
