(Winnsboro, LA) A Produce Safety and GAP Certification training was held at the LSU AgCenter’s Scott Center in Winnsboro, LA, from November 2-3, 2022. Representatives from the LSU AgCenter, Southern University AgCenter, and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture provided information on FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act) and GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) audits. Participants included commercial produce growers, farmers market vendors, and cottage food producers.
Presenters included Dr. Achuyut Adhikari, Associate Professor LSU School of Nutrition and Food Sciences; Dr. Kathryn Fontenot, Associate Professor LSU School of Soil, Crop, and Plant Sciences; Dr. Fatemeh Malekian, Professor Southern University; Dr. Priyanka Gupta, post-doctorial researcher in the Adhikari Food Safety Lab; Kelly Hughes, Program Manager for the LDAF Produce Safety Program; Juan Moreira, PhD Candidate LSU School of Nutrition and Food Sciences; and Long Trinh, Agriculture Specialist Program Manager, LDAF. The event was facilitated by Marcie Wilson, LSU AgCenter northeast region horticulture agent, and Cecilia Stevens, northeast region food systems coordinator.
