Summer Camp

Join us for a Day at 4-H Summer Camp on July 6, 2021 as we focus on Environmental Education though forestry products, paper making, and wildlife ecology! Camp will also feature recreational stations including a Foam Hatchet Throwing Competition, Camp Style Races, and Arts & Crafts!

4-H Camp is for youth in grades 4th – 6th this school year. Attending summer camp at Grant Walker is the highlight of so many Louisiana 4-H youth, and adults. Summer Camp will look different. Unfortunately, due to the damage caused by two hurricanes in the fall of 2020, Camp Grant Walker is not well enough to welcome campers back in the summer of 2021.

4-H Camp registration is $50 for a day at camp. Registration includes all snacks and meal. Sweet potato / Strawberry sales from last year, this year, or both maybe used to offset your registration cost!

Transportation will not be provided by the 4-H office. Parent/Guardian will need to bring 4-H’er to and from the event. Camp will begin at 8:00 am and continue to 5:00 pm. Camper drop off and pick up will follow specific procedures outlined in the camp packet.

Camp Registration Fees are Due by June 1st. 4-H Health Forms are Due before June 15! Once you have registered for camp, you will receive and email with links to print & complete Health Form, Parent Info Guide, and Camp Packing List. If you register and decide not to attend camp, Please contact the 4-H office to have your name removed!

4-H Summer Workshops

We know you are going to miss having a full week at 4-H summer camp. One day at camp won’t be enough to get you through till school starts in the fall, so we are planning some of our favorite workshops for July! At this time we are making plans for a summer water rocket workshop and an Outdoor Adventures type day camp. If interested, call the office at 318-992-2205 to place your name on the mailing list! Water Rocket workshop (July 13) will be geared for 4-H members 4th - 6th Grade. Outdoor Adventures workshop (July 20) is geared for members 5th-7th Grades.

4-H University

4-H University is fast approaching. 4-H’ers, 8th - 12th grades, are eligible to attend. This is your chance to compete statewide against other 4-H members for cash, educational trips and awards trips.

4-H University will be a combination of virtual and in person contest and activities for this year.

The in-person format of 4-H University will look different due to the COVID-19 restrictions and overall structure. The event will focus more on day event for contestants compared to a three-four-day experience. As with our shooting sports and livestock events, parents / guardians will be needed for transportation.

Many of the in person contests are being held in the Alexandria area. A few of the contest will take place at 4-H Camp. Judging contest will be held in Baton Rouge. See the
4-H U handout for contest location and day of event!

Those who wish to run for a State Office or apply for a State Board Position need to contact the 4-H office for registration before May 1, 2021. State Board positions include: Fashion Board, SET Board, Citizenship Board, Food & Fitness, Shooting Sports, and the Executive Board.

4-H Day at the Capitol

The Annual 4-H Day at the Capitol looks a little different this year! Due to limitations, only State Leadership Board officers will be invited to attend the event in person on May 26, 2021. All 4-H members may sign up to participate in virtual experiences on that day.

The events will be open to all, but registered participants will receive a Day at the Capitol in the Box package (Youth Only). The Day at the Capitol package will include: An event mask, Government related activity sheets, thank you cards, how to thank your legislator instructions, 10 ways to serve, 3 branches of Government activity, and an activity with supplies to complete on May 26, 2021.
