The objective of the State 4-H Leadership Program is to assist with the development of educational programs that provide opportunities for advocacy, leadership, and youth voice. This year, 6 special youth represented St. Martin Parish on a state 4-H board. We are very proud of their service.

St. Martin 4-H developed parish ambassador programs in the areas of shooting sports and livestock. The ambassadors who were chosen represented 4-H, and specifically St. Martin Parish, for public relations purposes at special events with the general public, 4-H groups, community service groups, and media contacts. These youth serve as spokespersons for their programs on the parish level and help to make sure that these programs are visible to the public.

The Junior Achievement Award is presented annually to several 8th grade 4-H members in the parish. Students must complete an application and the selection is based on participation in 4-H activities on the parish level, leadership involvement, and quality project work. I ask that the recipients come forward when their names are called to receive their award. This year’s 4 recipients are:
The Louisiana 4-H Emerald Achievement Award, formerly known as the Key Club Award, is awarded to a select group of seniors throughout the state and gives recognition to 4-H club members who were outstanding contributors to 4-H club work through leadership, citizenship, and community service.
Each year, one deserving senior 4-H livestock exhibitor is awarded the Charles J. Fuselier Award. It was established in 1981 in memory of Sheriff Charles J. Fuselier, who was an avid supporter of the 4-H Livestock Program. This award is presented annually to a 4-H member who has demonstrated outstanding participation, leadership, and accomplishments in the 4-H livestock program.
This year’s Charles J. Fuselier Livestock Award goes to a ten year 4-H member who has shown outstanding participation, leadership, and accomplishments in the poultry, rabbit, sheep, and goat projects.
During his nine-year livestock career, this exhibitor has shown leadership with his livestock projects and has participated in livestock shows on the parish, district, state, and national levels. He has served as a St. Martin parish livestock ambassador and won the State Poultry and State Rabbit Premier Exhibitor Contests this year.
This award winner said that raising livestock for the past 9 years has not only shaped his 4-H career but has influenced him to pursue a career as a livestock veterinarian.

The 4-H Honor Cord recognizes select 4-H members who are graduating seniors who have been enrolled in 4-H for at least three years during their high school career and have participated in at least one state-sponsored 4-H program in the last three years.
Recipients of the 4-H Honor Cords are allowed to wear them during the commencement ceremony at their school.This year, we had 9 seniors qualify for a 4-H Honor Cord. Our hope is that through your 4-H experience, you have gained skills that will lead you on your way.
The first presentation will be the Gary J. Latiolais Memorial Scholarship.Gary Latiolais was one of our longtime livestock supporters. If there was a livestock show going on, you knew that Gary would be there helping as many exhibitors as possible.
After his unexpected death, Gary Latiolais’ family graciously decided to create the Gary J. Latiolais Memorial Scholarship in his memory. This scholarship is a $500 scholarship which will be awarded each year to recognize the overall swine showmanship champion at the St. Martin Parish Livestock Show. The recipient of this scholarship receives their monetary award when they are a high school senior.
Please help me congratulate the winner of the 2020 Gary J. Latiolais Memorial Scholarship, Rhylan Robicheaux.Rhylan is an 8th grader and a member of the St. Martin Parish At-Large club. She is the daughter of Ryan and Danielle Robicheaux.
The Scott Tractor Company, headquartered in Monroe, continued its scholarship program to all 64 parishes in Louisiana this year.Four recipients were selected and will receive a $150 scholarship.

The Conrad Gauthier Scholarship is a scholarship created in memory of Mr. Conrad Gauthier, a former 4-H county agent who served the 4-H youth of our parish for over 30 years. This year, four recipients were selected, and they will each receive a $500 scholarship.
The first recipient is a ten year 4-H member who currently serves as the President of the At-Large 4-H Club, the Vice-President of the Jr. Leader Club, and a Southwest Regional Representative on the State 4-H Executive Board. Over the years, she has been involved in service-learning, citizenship, and leadership projects. Her favorite memories include her time spent as a counselor at Camp Grant Walker and attending National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Georgia.
She enjoys art, spending time with friends, and going to 4-H events! After she graduates, this recipient is planning on attending LSU in Baton Rouge. Although she is unsure of what she will major in at this time, she is leading towards studying Business Administration/Management and Advertising/Marketing.
Please help me congratulate Emma Breaux from Teurlings Catholic High School. Emma is the daughter of Angie Breaux and Allen Dale Trahan.
The second recipient of the Conrad Gauthier Scholarship is a nine year 4-H member who currently serves on the state’s executive board as the LA State 4-H Vice President and the President of the parish’s Jr. Leader Club. Over the years, he has been involved in several leadership projects. His favorite 4-H memory has been every moment spent with his 4-H family. He enjoys food, family, and friends! After he graduates, this recipient plans to study chemical engineering at ULL. Please help me congratulate Justin Boudreaux from Breaux Bridge High School. Justin is the son of Herb and Carla Boudreaux.
The third recipient has been involved in the livestock, archery, and service-learning projects. Her favorite 4-H memory is when she attended National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Georgia. She enjoys hanging out with friends and family, modeling clothes, playing with the cows on her farm, and playing music with her siblings. After she graduates, she plans on going to SLCC and majoring in French and Spanish education. Please help me congratulate Georgie Mae Harris from Teurlings Catholic High School. Georgie is the daughter of Russ and Gigi Harris
Our final recipient is a nine year 4-H member currently serves as the President of the Breaux Bridge High School 4-H Club, the Reporter of the Jr. Leader Club, and a Southwest Regional Representative on the State 4-H Executive Board. He also serves as a parish shooting sports and livestock ambassador. Over the years, this recipient has been involved in the archery, poultry, rabbit, sheep, and goat projects.His favorite 4-H memory is attending a national grant training conference in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
When he is not at a rabbit show, he can be found spending time with his family and friends or playing with his animals. After graduation, this recipient will be attending McNeese State University and will major in Agribusiness.

Each year, senior 4-H members have the opportunity to apply for state-level 4-H scholarships ranging from $100 to $2,000.
This $800 scholarship is selected based on overall participation in his/her parish 4-H program with an emphasis on leadership. This year’s CJ Naquin Scholarship recipient is a nine year 4-H member. Please help me congratulate Alex Meche from Breaux Bridge High School.
