March is National Nutrition Month! Picture2jpg

  • Satisfy your sweet tooth with fruit instead of cookies. Try dipping fruit in low fat yogurt or with a slice of cheese for a nutrient dense snack.
  • Try snacking on vegetables instead of unhealthy foods like chips. Roast broccoli and cauliflower with red pepper flakes and olive oil for a crispy, low fat treat.
  • Sometimes our eyes are bigger than our stomachs which leads to over eating. Half of your plate should be fruits and vegetables leaving the other half for grains and protein.
  • Find whole grain options that you like. Whole grain foods keep you full longer helping not to overeat. Try including one new whole grain option like popcorn this week.
  • Make physical activity fun by including the whole family. It is more fun when you exercise together. You need at least 1 hour of physical activity 3 times a week and your parents need at least 30 minutes of physical activity 3 times a week. Make plans to do something active with your family this week.
