Burden Museum & Gardens offers Go Public Gardens days

(04/29/22) BATON ROUGE, La. — The LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens at Burden is proud to join the American Public Gardens Association and more than 500 gardens nationwide in celebrating Go Public Gardens Days on May 14 and 15.

This fun-filled weekend celebration will be full of free events for the whole family to enjoy.

Go Public Gardens Days is an ongoing initiative of the American Public Gardens Association meant to drive the public to visit, value and volunteer at public gardens in their area and when they travel.

Presenting partners and involved organizations include the American Public Gardens Association, Pilates Plus Baton Rouge, Junior League of Baton Rouge, The Red Shoes, East Baton Rouge Parish Master Gardeners, Herb Society of America Baton Rouge Unit and Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System.

The LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens at Burden is located at 4560 Essen Lane in Baton Rouge.

The schedule for the weekend events is as follows:

Saturday, May 14

7 to 9 a.m. — Birding at Burden

Birding enthusiasts will lead three separate guided birding tours through several of the six birding loops at Burden.

9 to 10 a.m. — Walk with a Doc

Take a walk with Our Lady of the Lake psychiatrist Dr. Mark Zielinski to learn about what psychiatrists do.

9 a.m. to noon — Children’s activities

Join us for StoryTime in the Garden with the Junior League of Baton Rouge and for Fairy Gardening with the East Baton Rouge Master Gardeners.

10:30 to 11:30 a.m. — Yoga class with Pilates Plus Baton Rouge

Tone up and relax with yoga in the gardens.

12:30 to 1:30 p.m. — Forest bathing with The Red Shoes

Immerse yourselves into the forest and experience its sights, sounds, aromas and textures to connect with nature and to experience a positive benefit for your mind, body and spirit.

2 to 3 p.m. — Herbal teas with the Baton Rouge Unit of the Herb Society of America

Join the Herb Society to learn all about common herbal teas and their many benefits. Stick around for a tea sampling afterward.

Sunday, May 15

All day — Free admission to Windrush Gardens

Noon to 2 p.m. — Picnic and plant health clinic

Bring your own garden picnic to Windrush Gardens and ask an expert your plant health questions.
