Wellness walking paths offer free fitness opportunities in Monroe

MONROE, La. – Monroe residents and visitors are invited to enjoy new wellness walking paths at the St. Francis Community Health Center and Anna Gray Noe Park.

The wellness paths feature fitness signs with simple exercise prompts suitable for a range of fitness levels and ages, distance markers, and health messages. Visitors can even learn how to incorporate a park bench into their workout.

“Since the signs were installed, hospital employees and families have already been seen following the prompts and exercising in the park,” said Cathy Agan, LSU AgCenter SNAP-Ed Agent. “The hospital is also working on more ways to expand health and wellness activities and opportunities in the park in the future.”

Ribbon cutting ceremonies for the new walking paths on May 6 and 13 included a pop-up farmers market and an interactive educational booth from the LSU AgCenter, said Agan.

St. Francis Medical Center partnered with Well-Ahead Louisiana and the LSU AgCenter to establish the two wellness paths. These organizations work together as part of the Ouachita Parish Healthy Communities Coalition, which is an AgCenter-led group that supports healthful community enhancements like the fitness signs.

“We encourage our team members to use the paths as part of Well-Ahead Louisiana’s worksite wellness program. This is a convenient way for them to get a little exercise and relaxation time during the day which helps to clear their mind, relieve stress, and decrease anxiety. The paths are also a wonderful benefit to our community members, and we invite everyone to come and see what the walking paths have to offer,” said Aimee Kane, Vice President of Business Development & Strategy at St. Francis Medical Center.

Anna Gray Noe Park is located in downtown Monroe directly across from St. Francis Medical Center and the Ouachita Parish Courthouse. The St. Francis Community Health Center is located on Tower Drive and houses outpatient services and several physician’s offices.
