Audubon Sugar Institute Internship

Work Location:

Audubon Sugar Institute, St. Gabriel, Louisiana.

Responsibilities:

The intern will help conduct research in the area of biomass conversion to green chemicals. The intern will be trained on safety and on the use of equipment needed for this project (microplate reader, autoclave, SEM, REM, FTIR, XRD). The intern is expected to work in the laboratory full-time to investigate the antioxidant (using two methods) and antimicrobial (against bacteria and fungi) properties of biomass extracts and/or metal nanoparticles. The intern will also be responsible for preparing growth media and reagents, and maintaining microbial cultures.

Qualification Requirements:

The student should have general knowledge and skills in the areas of microbiology, biology, chemistry, or biochemistry; and should have completed at least his/her second year at the university.

Additional Qualifications Desired:

The candidate should be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and have excellent communication, writing and computational skills. Laboratory experience is required. Good housekeeping practices are a must.

Funding Period:

June 1-August 6.

Deliverables:
