4-H Enrollment and Dues

4-H Online Enrollment

Dues are $5.00 if joining as a Member-at-large through the 4-H Office. If joining through a school club, please check with 4-H Leader on the dues amount.

Member-at-large dues can be mailed or dropped off at the 4-H Office at 1065 Highway 749, Suite A, Opelousas, LA, 70570. Checks and/or money orders can be made payable to St. Landry 4-H.

4-H Welcome!

We are an active group offering Citizenship, Healthy Living and SET (Science, Engineering and Technology) programming to youth in grades 4th-12th.The 2021-2022 4-H year may look and feel a little different than before. We want you to know that your 4-H Agents, Lisa Benoit and Megan Plattsmier, are working hard to offer programs and activities as much in person as we can following safety guidelines as well as offering virtual club meetings and activities.

4-H’ers and parents can stay informed through the monthly 4-H Chatterbox newsletter as well as our St. Landry 4-H Facebook page and St. Landry LSU AgCenter Webpage. Please go and like our Facebook page if you haven’t already done so.

Club Officers

Each club should have officers decided upon by the October or at latest November Meeting. Suggested officers are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Reporter. An installation program will be conducted by your 4-H Club Leader or Agent.

Fall Activity Day

This event will be held Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at the Ag Arena in Opelousas (Behind the Yambilee Building on Hwy. 190). Registration begins at 4:00 P.M. and Contest Judging begins at 4:30 P.M.

Pet Contest Rules - 1 pet per 4-H'er

Pet Categories

  • Dog – must be on a leash, have rabies tag and be tame.
  • Cat – must be on a leash or in a pet carrier.
  • Bird – in a cage (no chickens, turkeys, ducks, or geese).
  • Fish – in a fishbowl.
  • Rabbit – in a cage.
  • Reptile – in a cage.
  • Rodent – in a cage

Only pets in the pet categories listed can be exhibited. DO NOT bring livestock animals. Awards to be given in each category: Most Colorful, Most 4-H Spirited, Best Behaved, Best Groomed, Pet & Owner Look-A-Likes

Plant Contest Rules - 1 plant per 4-Her

  • Each 4-H’er may exhibit one potted plant you have had at home and caring for at least 30 days.
  • Label pot of plant with Child’s Name, School and Grade
  • Plant Categories:Foliage, Flowering, Succulent, Hanging, Pole & Miscellaneous Herbs

Poster Contest Rules - 1 poster per 4-H'er

  • Theme: “4-H Building the Future”
  • Use standard size poster, any color, make creative use of theme. (No Glitter)
  • Information needed on back of poster are Child’s Name, School and Grade

Pumpkin Contest Rules - 1 per 4-H Club

  • Each 4-H Club may enter ONLY one pumpkin.
  • Needs to promote 4-H and be created by the
  • Acceptable decorations: carving, paint, makers, clothes, etc. (No Glitter)
  • Awards to be given to 4-H Clubs:1st Place – blue ribbon & trophy, 2nd Place – red ribbon & trophy, 3rd Place – white ribbon & trophy. All other clubs received participation ribbon.

Possession dates (date you acquire the animal at your home) are listed below:

Junior Leader Meeting

The first meeting will be Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at the Extension Office. A business meeting and educational program will be conducted. Junior Leader Club is open to 7th-12th grade 4-H members only. Submit the online enrollment form, located below, and $5.00 membership fee to enroll. Fees are due by November 1, 2021 to remain on mailing list.

National 4-H Week

October 3 - 9, 2021

Celebrate National 4-H Week.4-H is 113 years old in Louisiana! Theme: “4-H Building the Future”. Suggested activities for the week are poster contests, green & white day, teacher appreciation, paint the school green, community service project. 4-H clubs that conduct at least 5 activities will be recognized with a Silver Tray Award.

St. Landry Parish 4-H will also host different daily themed activities during the week on our St. Landry 4-H Facebook page.4-H’ers will be able to post a photo each day as they participate.4-H’ers that participate each day will receive a 4-H surprise.

If you would like to join this gardening project club, register below. Space limited to the first (50) 4-H’ers.A packet of seeds and gardening newsletter will be mailed to registered 4-H’ers each month from October to May.

SET Club

Perform fun experiments and discover all aspects of SET! This Science, Engineering & Technology Club is open to 4th-8th grade 4-H’ers.Limited to the first (30) 4-H’ers that register. Registration fee is $10.00. Register online through the link below. Meetings held once a month 4:30-6:00 p.m. at the St. Landry 4-H Office, every other month, starting November 2021 and ending May 2022.

Shooting Sports Club

Participation in this Outdoor Skills Program is not limited by skill or physical abilities and is open to youth in 4th-12th grade. Disciplines offered are Shotgun, Archery and BB Gun.4-H’ers can only sign up for (1) discipline and will have to bring all of their own equipment (including safety) to practices and competitions. An informational meeting about the program will be held virtually on Thursday, October 21, 2021.

To register for the Shooting Sports Club, complete the online registration form and submit the $20.00 registration fee and health form by Friday, October 22, 2021. Check or money order need to be made payable to St. Landry Parish 4-H.
