Record keeping is an important part of every 4-H educational project, & it’s a critical skill that will help students for a lifetime!
The 4-H Portfolio - Many awards, educational trips, & college scholarships are given to club members on the basis of their records & project work. Records show your 4-H club work progress, such as leadership accomplishments, citizenship/community service involvement, awards & recognition, etc.
The 4-H Project Record Sheet - The project record sheet helps members track, record, & reflect on their specific projects. It is used to document various project work, such as: livestock, photography, outdoor skills/shooting sports, foods/nutrition, leadership, communications, etc.
Timeline - Completed Portfolios/Record Sheets will be due to Ouachita Parish 4-H around early July each year. Selected Portfolios will be sent to the State Records Contest around early August. Results from the State Contest are available early September.

The Louisiana Beef Industry Council Beef Poster Contest encourages participants to learn more about the beef industry, meat science, & nutrition while developing marketing, communication, organization, & research skills. The 2022 Beef Poster Contest Theme is “All About Beef”. Participants may compete in either the poster or digital competition! Details & rules will be available soon on our Facebook page, Ouachita 4-H. Posters or digital entries are due to the Ouachita 4-H office by March 11, 2022. This contest is open to 4-H & FFA members in grades 4-12!

Camp Culinary is for all youth ages 9-13 & is scheduled for December 17-18 at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock. Registration deadline is December 3. See our Facebook page for details.
Help our Jr. Leaders/HYPE Members with our Community Service Project! We will be supporting the Simple Project, a non-profit charity that is dedicated to the homeless & less fortunate. Ouachita 4-H will be collecting new or gently used coats in all sizes, scarves, hats, gloves, & misc. travel sized toiletry items, such as: shampoo, conditioner, lotion, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, comb, & Kleenex. We will be collecting donations through Wednesday, Dec. 15. Items may be dropped off at the Ouachita 4-H office, 8:00-4:30, Monday-Friday, 704 Cypress Street in West Monroe.
Open to 4-H’ers 7th grade & up - The Jr. Leader/HYPE meeting is scheduled for Saturday, December 11 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. We will meet at the West Monroe Community Center, 400 S 5th Street, West Monroe. We have been invited to the community center to participate in a community service project wrapping Christmas presents, learn about Americorps, & participate in a financial literacy lesson! The Golden Clover & Emerald Achievement Awards reflect the years of 4-H club work, club offices held, project records completed, participation in workshops, clinics, & events, awards programs, leadership participation, etc. In an effort to incentivize local programming & recognition, both awards have been transitioned to parish awards. For application form & details, please contact Tara Garlington at 323-2251. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

Pre-registration deadline is Friday, January 7, 2022! The Ouachita 4-H Cookery Contest is scheduled for Monday, January 10, 2022 from 5:00-7:30 p.m. in the 4-H auditorium. 4-H’ers should drop off their dishes between 5:00-6:00 p.m. & arrive back at 7:00 p.m. for the awards presentation. 4-H’ers with winning dishes will compete in the Area Cookery in Rayville in February. They will compete against 4-H’ers in 12 other parishes! Please pre-register by contacting the 4-H office via phone (318-323-2251) or email (ouachita@agcenter.lsu.edu) stating contestant’s name & dish category. 4-H members aged 9 to 19 are eligible to compete. The Photography Club will meet Thursday, December 16 from 4:45-6:00 p.m. in downtown West Monroe. We will meet at “Alley Park” for a few minutes then we will head over to “Land of Lights.”Parents may pick-up at the “Land of Lights” at the corner of Pine and Cotton Streets. The Northeast Louisiana Master Gardener Association is pleased to announce the 2022 Steven L. Hotard Scholarship for Excellence. The Association will again award a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving graduating senior who has been accepted into an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or technical school & who is pursuing a degree in any of the applied or natural sciences. The student must be currently active in 4-H. Selection of the recipient will be based on 4-H project work, community service, demonstrated leadership, & academic achievement.
