4-H Night with the Pelicans – March 4, 2022

Pre-Game Party: 4:15PM - 5:45PM

Tip-Off: 7:00PM

The deadline to order tickets is February 11, 2022. The registration link, along with important details & forms, will be available on our Facebook Page, Ouachita 4-H. Please read carefully through all of the information.

It is also important that everyone planning on attending is aware that the Mayor of New Orleans has stated that the Vaccine/Negative Covid Test to enter the New Orleans Arena will remain in place through Mardi Gras.Mardi Gras is on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.The game is on Friday, March 4, 2022.We don’t expect the vaccine/negative covid test will be lifted by the time of the game.Also for on-court participation you must be fully vaccinated (please see the on-court event participation agreement).

From the Pelicans: Important: As of December 2021, any student 12 years of age & older must provide proof of at least one dose of an approved COVID vaccine or negative PCR, molecular, or antigen test within 72 hours to enter the Smoothie King Center.

4-H Rabbit Workshop

Bunny rabbit.A 4-H Rabbit Workshop will be held Wednesday, January 26 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the 4-H office auditorium, 704 Cypress Street, West Monroe. The workshop is open to all 4-H’ers & there is no fee to attend. Youth will learn how to care for their rabbit & about becoming a rabbit exhibitor. Please bring your rabbit if you already have one. Be sure to transport your rabbit in a cage. To sign up, please email the youth’s name, grade, parent’s name & parent’s cell phone number to tgarlington@agcenter.lsu.edu by January 19.

Ag Expo

Ag Expo logo.It’s back!!! The 2022 Ag EXPO will be held at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center, 501 Main Street in West Monroe, from 2-8 p.m. Friday, January 14 & 9 a.m.- 4 p.m., Saturday, January 15, 2022. The Ag EXPO provides a means to educate the public on many ways agriculture touches daily lives, from explaining the food chain to multiple uses of agricultural products, while introducing advances in technology & science. Join us for this fun family event!

Beef Poster Contest

The Louisiana Beef Industry Council Beef Poster Contest encourages participants to learn more about the beef industry, meat science, & nutrition while developing marketing, communication, organization, & research skills. The 2022 Beef Poster Contest Theme is “All About Beef”. Participants may compete in either the poster or digital competition! Details & rules will be available soon on our Facebook page, Ouachita 4-H. Posters or digital entries are due to the Ouachita 4-H office by March 11, 2022. This contest is open to 4-H & FFA members in grades 4-12!


  • Division I: 4th – 6th grades
  • Division II: 7th – 9th grades
  • Division III: 10th – 12th grades
  • Division DIGITAL: Open division. All ages compete together

Awards: All monetary awards are sponsored by the Louisiana Beef Industry Council.

  • First Place: State winning posters in each division will receive $200
  • Second Place: State winning posters in each division will receive $100
  • Third Place: State winning posters in each division will receive $50

Cooperative Enterprise Teen Leadership Conference

8th-12th graders will have the opportunity to sharpen their marketing & financial management skills as they compete in teams to build & manage their own cooperative business at the 2022 Cooperative Enterprise Teen Leadership Conference. The conference will take place at the Wesley Center in Woodworth, LA from Thursday-Saturday, March 24-26. This event is generously sponsored by the Louisiana Council of Farmer Cooperatives.

The cost for the conference is $50. Checks should be made payable to LCFC. The deadline to register is Friday, February 25! To register: 1. Complete the online registration at Co-op Camp (4-H) (formsite.com) 2. Mail registration fees & forms by February 26 to Louisiana 4-H, Attn: Michelle Dry, 169 Knapp Hall, Baton Rouge, LA 70803.Details will be provided in the link above.

Be sure to “like” us on Facebook & Instagram… both pages are named Ouachita 4-H. The 4-H Newsletter is made available on our webpage, lsuagcenter.com/Ouachita, as well as on our Facebook page. It is available within the first week of each month, September through April.

Golden Clover/Emerald Achievement Awards

The Golden Clover & Emerald Achievement Awards reflect the years of 4-H club work, club offices held, project records completed, participation in workshops, clinics, & events, awards programs, leadership participation, etc. In an effort to incentivize local programming & recognition, both awards have been transitioned to parish awards. For application form & details, please contact Tara Garlington at 323-2251. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

4-H Golden Clover Award

All items are optional, but a total of 250 points must be earned for award.Points are accumulated based on your total years of work in 4-H.

  • Must be 14 years of age or under by January 1 of the club year application is made
  • Must have at least two (2) years of 4-H club work, including award year
  • Must score at least 250 points on the application & scorecard
  • A club member may only win this award one time.

4-H Emerald Achievement Award

All items are optional, but a total of 360 points must be earned for award.Points are accumulated based on your total years of work in 4-H.

  • Must be 15 years of age (or older) by January 1 of the year application is made.
  • Must have three years of 4-H club work, including award year.
  • Must have completed one year of active Junior Leadership work excluding award year.
  • Must score at least 360 points on the application & scorecard.
  • A club member may only win this award one time.

January HYPE/Jr. Leader Meeting

Open to 4-H’ers 7th grade & up - The Jr. Leader/HYPE meeting is scheduled for Friday, January 28 from 4-5p.m. in the 4-H office auditorium. RSVP by Monday, January 24 by calling 323-2251, or by emailing tgarlington@agcenter.lsu.edu

Junior Leader Conference (JLC)

Open to all 4-H Members age 14 years & older, Junior Leadership Conference will be held March 10-11, 2022 & repeated on March 11-12, 2022. Both camps will be held at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, LA. Participants may chose which camp they would like to attend.

Theme: This year’s theme is “Back to Leadership”.The session choices are: It’s About Time; Today’s Voices, Tomorrow’s Futures; Returning to Responsibility; & Talking to the Past.

Registration Form: The registration form will be available on our Facebook Page, Ouachita 4-H, where participants will be able to view details, indicate which camp they would like to attend & rank their session choices. Drop off/Pick up information, etc., will be provided upon registration.

Deadlines & Fees: The Cost is $65. Please make checks payable to Ouachita 4-H. Please mail or drop off registration forms & fees to our office at 704 Cypress Street, West Monroe, LA 71291 by February 4, 2022.

Photography Club Meeting

Camera with photo prints.The next Photography Club meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 18 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. in the 4-H office auditorium, 704 Cypress Street, West Monroe. Please RVSP by emailing tgarlington@agcenter.lsu.edu by Thursday, January 13.

Our photo club has been asked to do a show at the Schepis Museum in Columbia, LA.The title of the show is “From the Lens:My Inspiration”.It is to let the photographers show what inspires them, makes them happy or means the most to them.Please bring 3 or 4 8x10 photographic prints for the Photographic Art Show to the meeting on January 18. We will mount them & get them ready for the show.Please be thinking of titles for your images.Also, bring 2 or 3 color copies of an image you like that has been printed in reverse or mirror (need an extra in case we mess one up).We will make a photographic canvas if time allows.

Steven L. Hotard Scholarship

Cap and gown and scholarship.The Northeast Louisiana Master Gardener Association is pleased to announce the 2022 Steven L. Hotard Scholarship for Excellence. The Association will again award a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving graduating senior who has been accepted into an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or technical school & who is pursuing a degree in any of the applied or natural sciences. The student must be currently active in 4-H. Selection of the recipient will be based on 4-H project work, community service, demonstrated leadership, & academic achievement.
