St. John Parish New 4-H Agent

St. John the Baptist Parish has a new Assistant Youth Development 4-H Agent. Curtis Jones, who graduated from Alcorn State University with a B.S. Degree in Agribusiness Management and completed his Master’s requirements in Agriculture Economics. Mr. Jones has several years of experience as a 4-H Youth Agent with Mississippi State University Extension Service. Mr. Jones has worked with shooting sports, livestock, photograph, school clubs, community clubs, etc. Mr. Jones has presented numerous educational programs on bullying, livestock safety, interviewing skills, character education, manners, etc. Mr. Jones is looking forward to working with 4-H clubs and starting new clubs in the parish. Ag Magic at Baton Rouge

Ag Magic is Monday, April 3rd through Sunday, April 9, 2017. Ag Magic is an interactive, visually stimulating environment that links food and fiber products we use everyday to the forests, field crops and Livestock produced by Louisiana farmers, ranchers and forest landowners. Ag Magic is a free event by the LSU Ag Center and Volunteers.

4-H Sewing Club

The 4-H Sewing Club will meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 1956 Carrollwood Drive, Laplace, Louisiana. Mrs. Bobbie Zaidain will be the instructor and can be reached at .

4-H Day at the Capitol

Mark your calendars for 4-H Day at the Capitol on Wednesday, May 31, 2017. More details will follow in the coming months with registration details, agenda etc.

2017 Co-op Youth Leadership Conference

The conference will be April 7-9, 2017 at Camp Grant Walker. Some of the topics will be how to form and run a Co-operative Business, market and create a successful membership drive, learn interviewing and marketing skills and be a valued employee of the business operation. There will be many more topics to be discussed. The registration fee is $30.00. Call the 4-H Office for an application at 985-497-3261. The office deadline is May 3, 2017.

Legislative Youth Advisory Council

The purpose of the Advisory Council is to facilitate the communication between youth and the legislature and give students an opportunity to be involved in the workings of government. Call the 4-H Office 985-497-3261 for an application packet. Application deadline for the office is March 14, 2017.

2018 National 4-H Conference

The conference will be held April 7-12, 2018 at the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland. The purpose of the conference is to help youth and adults develop their maximum potential by providing opportunities to participate actively in 4-H Youth Program development within their states and provinces and at the National level, assist with 4-H program planning, etc. Call the 4-H Office 985-497-3261for an application. Deadline to turn in application to the office is April 27th.

4-H Duct Tape Workshop

On Monday, January 30, 2017, Mrs. Rona Joseph conducted 4-H Duct Tape Workshop where the 4-H’ers made purses and wallets out of Duct Tape. A total of 20 boys and girls attended the workshop and had a wonderful time. Mrs. Joseph gave the 4-H’ers the pattern for their purse or wallet and they chose the colors that they wanted their purse or wallet. Everyone worked together sharing the scissors and different color duct tape. It was awesome and the 4-H’ers and volunteers really enjoyed the workshop. Thank you, Mrs. Joseph for a job well done.
