Work Location: School of Nutrition and Food Sciences, Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Responsibilities: The School of Nutrition and Food Science at the Louisiana State University AgCenter seeks one post-doctoral scientist/research associate to work in the food safety program of Dr. Achyut Adhikari. The selected applicant will work on produce food safety research and extension activities related to the Food Safety Modernization Act requirements. The project is in collaboration with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) and Southern University AgCenter.Responsibilities include:Involve in FSMA related trainings such as Produce Safety Alliance Growers Training and Food Safety Preventive Control Alliance Preventive Controls Training.Extensive instate travel for food safety training and outreach.Collect farm inventory data related to fresh produce farms in Louisiana.Assist in food safety extension and outreach programs.Develop educational tools and materials related to food safety.Conduct research focused on the microbiological safety of foods.Develop scholarly activity at scientific conference sand publications in peer reviewed journals.Develop effective working relationships with coalitions and networks in the field.
Qualification Requirements: A Ph.D. in food science, microbiology, epidemiology, plant science, crop and soil science or relevant field and experience in laboratory microbiology. Demonstrated experience in food safety systems. Experience with produce food safety and microbiology is desirable. A strong and proven record of scientific accomplishment by peer reviewed publications is a must for this position. Effective human relations skills are required to work with a variety of clientele and professional groups. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form with a variety of audiences is required.
