Location: Department of Entomology, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, La.
Job Description: Funding is available for one year for a Research Associate to assist with a project investigating the effects of fire on the incidence and severity of southern pine beetle infestations. The associate will be responsible for acquiring, assembling, and organizing data on insect infestations, stand conditions and burn histories from public forests in the southern U.S. Acquisition of data will involve interaction with Forest Service personnel and other relevant sources of information. Limited travel to field sites and ability to work in rough, uneven terrain will be necessary. The associate will also assist faculty and students in the Department of Entomology, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, in analyzing datasets and communicating results of analyses to stakeholders. The position will be housed primarily at the Alexandria Forestry Center, USDA Forest Service, Pineville, Louisiana; occasional travel to LSUBaton Rouge will be required to interact with cooperators.
Qualification Requirements: Baccalaureate degree in Entomology or closely related field (Master’s degree strongly preferred). Strong organizational skills, proficiency in data management, familiarity with SAS andMS Excel, and ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a wide variety of partners required. Experience in forest entomology and familiarity with Forest Service personnel and regulations highly desired.
