Job Description: The School of Renewable Natural Resources at Louisiana State University has an opening for a post-doctoral researcher to further our understanding of the demographic consequences of behavioral decisions by Eastern and Rio Grande wild turkeys across the southeastern United States. I am offering the post-doctoral position for 2 years with the 2nd year pending satisfactory evaluation at the end of the 1st year. The successful candidate will coordinate spatial and demographic analyses using high resolution GPS data collected across a suite of field studies on both Eastern and Rio Grande wild turkeys, with primary focus on live-dead band recovery/telemetry to estimate survival and harvest rate. However, the direction of the research position will be flexible to both take advantage of the applicant's specific expertise and interests and to capitalize on the existing spatial, movement, and demographic data available from a decade of coordinated research across the southeastern United States. Additional research opportunities include development and application of approaches for evaluating behavioral and movement ecology of wild turkeys, abundance estimation using closed/open-population and spatially explicit capturerecapture models, evaluations of habitat suitability and the impact of vegetation community structure on movement dynamics, and development and implementation of evidence accumulation methods for wild turkey management prioritization. Additionally, the successful candidate will engage in a long-term collaboration between researchers and graduate students at Louisiana State University and the University of Georgia focused on identifying population-level behavioral drivers of demography, genetics underlying reproductive ecology, and resource selection in fragmented environments.
Qualification Requirements: Ph.D. in Wildlife Ecology, Ecology, Biology, or closely related discipline. Applicants should have excellent written and oral communication skills; a strong record of publications in peer-reviewed journals; Experience working with geospatial data; Evidence of quantitative skills and programming experience (R/S/Python). Preference will be given to candidates with a familiarity with analysis of mark-recapture and spatiallyexplicit data, expertise in GIS, demonstrated proficiency in spatial modeling and quantitative programming, and a keen interest in upland wildlife population dynamics and engaging with state wildlife agencies.
Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
