This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position through 12/31/2022. Continuation will be dependent on funding, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.
Work Location: H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station, LSU AgCenter, Crowley, La.
Job Description: Responsibility of working under the direction of a project leader doing research on rice breeding and genetics. The duties will include field research, with emphasis on managing all aspects of advanced yield breeding trials and a breeding nursery. The position will involve planning, establishing, monitoring, and maintaining of multi-location yield trials, as well as data collection, record keeping, and the use of research equipment. At busy times of the year, this position will occasionally require working outside the standard workday to complete tasks. Routine travel around throughout Louisiana and neighboring states, as well as occasional travel to the winter nursery in Puerto Rico.
Qualification Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in plant sciences, agronomy, horticulture, plant pest management, other agricultural curriculums or related discipline from an accredited college or university. Other degrees may be accepted with experience or education related to job duties. Demonstrated experience with all aspects of managing a rice crop and a solid background in agronomy, with a knowledge of rice agricultural chemicals. Computer skills required. Demonstrated experience with research field equipment operation and maintenance is highly desired.
