About the LSU Agricultural Center: The LSU AgCenter, is one of eight campuses within the broader LSU enterprise (LSU System). The LSU AgCenter includes the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station, which conducts agricultural-based research, and the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service, which extends the knowledge derived from research to the people of the state. Position Description: The Training Specialist will serve as the training program administrator and as a resource for internal learning and development opportunities for employees in all units of the LSU AgCenter.
The position will split time between serving as a training facilitator for other units that provide technical training for AgCenter faculty and staff and serving as an internal trainer who develops and provides learning and development opportunities. The Training Specialist will prepare, develop, manage, coordinate and conduct training for the AgCenter. The Training Specialist will be responsible for communicating with unit heads to identify subjects or areas that would benefit from training and suggesting training solutions appropriate for the identified needs.
This position will also evaluate and document training activities and be responsible for ensuring that employees are notified and have the information necessary to complete mandatory training. The incumbent will work with Communications and Information Technology departments to ensure that messaging is consistent with AgCenter projects and initiatives and compatible with AgCenter technology platforms.
The incumbent will also develop and/or revise AgCenter policy and procedures related to training and development. Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements: The Training Specialist is required to have a bachelor’s degree in human resources, education, or a related field followed by 3 years of relevant work experience with a track record of conducting successful training programs. Candidates with a master’s degree in these fields may be given priority. Previous work experience as a Training Coordinator, Training Facilitator, Trainer or a similar role in a higher education environment is beneficial.
The incumbent must possess excellent time management skills, public speaking skills, problem solving skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must also be proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Ability to operate media equipment such as computers and projectors. Knowledge of traditional and modern training methods and techniques. Ability or willingness to develop knowledge of learning management systems, instructional design, and e-learning platforms. Ability to handle multiple assignments and analyze data.
Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
