Work Location: Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center, Pollock LA

Position Description: This position will serve as a member of our 2021 4-H Camp Traveling Road-Show program. This position includes a week-long training program and approximately eight week-long camps. The staff member will be responsible for teaching specific subject matter in an educational format to an audience of up to 30 4^th-6^th grade youth at a time. Training will be provided prior to program dates to allow staff to prepare instruction. Staff will have various recreational responsibilities that could include the following: camp store operation, arts & crafts, archery, foam hatchet-throwing, line dancing, relay races, and more. Camp staff work under the direct supervision of the 4-H Program Coordinator who serves as supervising professional to implement all policies and procedures of the 4-H Summer Camp, LSU AgCenter, and the Louisiana 4-H Youth Development Program.

Essential Job Functions:

• Utilizing experiential learning techniques to teach youth in one or more of the following fields:Outdoor Skills; Science, Engineering & Technology; General Arts; and Environmental Science.
• Provide guidance, supervision, and fun for campers while maintaining positive, energetic demeanor.
• Attend all meetings as scheduled by the 4-H Program Coordinator and Camp Director.
• Adheres to all 4-H Camp Grant Walker policies and procedures as outlined in the staff manual.
• Adheres and assists with maintaining health and safety standards, both personally and among campers, to ensure a safe and healthy camp environment.
• Staff will assist with COVID-19 screening and perform adequate cleaning and sanitization procedures.
• Travel will be required as a primary component of this position.
  • Reliable personal transportation to/from day camp sites and a clear driving record required
• Performs other duties as needed

Qualification Requirements:

• Prior experience educating or supervising children.
• Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as a team.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Work collaboratively with adults and volunteers.
• Must be AED/CPR certified (training is provided).
• Must complete an employee background check and be approved by the LSU AgCenter Human Resource Management Unit.
• Attended college for two years and are at a Junior or Senior credit hour level.
• Enrolled in agriculture education, education, social or behavioral sciences, STEM-related field, or any other field related to appropriate subject matter areas.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with sensitive issues with tact and discretion.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will commensurate with experience. Housing options are available on-site, meals and snacks will be available.

Date Available: Camp session is June 1 – August 1, 2021. Required training period will take place one week prior to camp session.
